We live in a lovely neighbourhood.
There are many kids around, they all play together, they come and go from each other’s houses, share toys, look out for each other. Most of the kids go to the same school, the older ones walk back and forward together. It all feels very safe. I am very happy that our kids are going to grow up around here, with their neighbours.
Once a year, the neighbourhood committee organises a Family Fun Day with a bbq, tea and coffee, face painting, bouncy castles, three legged raises… So much fun!
This all happened this last Sunday. It is usually a bit risky organising this at the end of September in Ireland, but with Limerick being city of culture this year, there has been something on every weekend. The weather was glorious and there is a fabulous sense of community and solidarity among all the neighbours. It really was a feel good day, an exhausting one at that. Everybody helped with the cooking, the serving, the setting up, the keeping an eye on the kids, collecting the leftovers and the rubbish… It was all very civilised and lovely.
The kids had been looking forward to it and they had a great time. They were exhausted going to bed (they still haven’t cut up in their sleep) and they are already looking forward to next year’s one.
Do you guys have something similar in your neighbourhood?
Have a great day,
